Sun Salutations & Standing Poses - With Joelle
Sunday 26th January // 9.30-11.30am

Cultivate heat, develop balance & build strong foundations

Sun Salutations introduce the basic principle of “vinyasa” – the pairing of movement with breath.  They feature a mixture of strengthen postures as well as forward and back bends.  Understanding the structure and techniques found in the sun salutations are key to building strong foundations in the yoga asanas (postures).

When the rhythm of the breath and movement are linked, the result is that we begin to cultivate heat, physical strength and a sense of calm.  Balancing both the body and the breath is an important method for calming the nervous system – leaving you feeling both grounded and energised.

With regular practice the sequence of postures become familiar leaving space for the mind to be still and the practice becomes a moving meditation.

Once we understand the actions of the sun salutations, we move on to exploring how we carry this knowledge into the standing postures.  Learning both the physical and energetic alignment principles.   Together, we will explore how to use the grounding force of gravity to balance and create an opposing force of lightness and space in the body.  Playing with these opposing forces facilitates strength and grace in the movements.

Like all workshops, all levels of experience are welcome.  Come with an open mind, ready to explore.  There will be time for questions and the session will be tailored to suit the group.

No experience necessary. Everyone is welcome

You can join this workshop in-studio only.
